Marine Corps

The 248th U.S. Marine Corps Birthday

Join us for the 248th celebration of the United States Marine Corps on November 10th, 2023, at 1700 hours.

This year, our focus is on the Marine Hymn, a tribute intertwined with the legacy of famous Marine Corps battles. From the Halls of Montezuma to the Shores of Tripoli, these words encapsulate our unwavering commitment to defend our nation’s values, whether in the air, on land, or at sea – always first in the fight for freedom.

The line “To the shores of Tripoli” holds a special significance. It refers to the First Barbary War and, more specifically, the heroic Battle of Derne in 1805. This pivotal engagement marked a historic moment for the Marine Corps when Lieutenant Presley O’Bannon and his Marines proudly raised the American flag on foreign soil for the very first time. It was this courageous act that led to the inclusion of the phrase in the Corps’ battle colors. The Battle of Derne represents a symbol of our enduring dedication to defending liberty and justice.

Adding to the excitement, Marine owned food truck, Daniela’s Cooking will be on hand to delight your taste buds.

HAPPY 247TH BIRTHDAY TO THE U.S. MARINE CORPS!

From the Halls of Montezuma, to the Taps of 1912!

Join us for our 1912 Brewing annual celebration of the Marine Corps Birthday on Thursday, November 10th, 2022! We are welcoming Marines, Veterans, Reserves and, friends and family of Marines.

This year, we remember the historic “Battle of Chapultepec” known as the final stronghold of the Mexican War. On September 13th, 1847, 120 U.S. Marines and Soldiers stormed the Chapultepec castle.

During this battle, 90 percent of the Marine officers and noncommissioned officers who fought were killed. Today the Marines’ actions in the battle of Chapultepec are remembered in the opening lines of The Marines’ Hymn, “From the Halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli.” Marine officers and noncommissioned officers also added scarlet stripes to their blue dress trousers, which are now referred to as “blood stripes,” to commemorate the Marines’ blood shed at Chapultepec.
